Varsity 2008

A massive congratulations and thank you to everyone involved in this year's annual sporting competition against Leeds Met Carnegie that took place last week. This year's Varsity saw more events that ever before and it was a fantastic success. The Rugby Union Finale at Headingley Stadium attracted the most spectators ever with a crowd of over 6,100! Today sees the launch of LSRfm.com!

Leeds Student Radio returns to the airways today and will be broadcasting 24 hours a day. Listen live at www.lsrfm.com.

Also today, nominations open for the seven remaining Union Council positions and for you to represent your fellow students at the NUS Conference. What about money?

The UK's Financial Watchdog (FSA) 'What about money' team will be in the Union building today from 12.00 noon and from 9.00am Tuesday, outside Essentials to promote the launch of their new website and give you the low down on overdrafts, loans, budgeting and everything else money-related.

On Wednesday the biggest sporting event of the year takes place!

LUU sports teams take on their Leeds Met counterparts in the fourth annual Leeds Varsity! This year will see the biggest Varsity yet with events more than doubling in size, from 23 teams to over 50 and, this year, our teams are fully focused on bringing more trophies back to the Union! LUU picks up the GOLD!

We are extremely proud to announce that LUU has recently become the first students' union in the country to be successful in obtaining a Gold SUEI (Students Union Evaluation Initiative) Award, the highest award possible for students' unions!
Lesley Dixon, Chief Executive of LUU, and Laura McFarlane-Shopes, Communications and Internal Affairs Office, will be travelling to London to receive the award at the House of Commons on Wednesday.
