LUU News - This week at LUU see's a 'Day of Action'!
World Class Funding – Day of Action!
One of the Student Exec's priority campaigns this year is World Class Funding! We are calling on the government to increase spending on higher education from the current level of 0.9% of GDP to meet the OECD average of 1.1%. This would mean an extra £2.5billion to spend on reducing fees and improving the university experience! To find out more about our campaign, come along to Pulse in the Union building on Wednesday 5th November at 1.30pm. We will be holding a short talk about our campaign with guest speakers, before marching down to Millenium Square in the City Centre for a special stunt involving lots of balloons, banners, noise and a giant inflatable globe! Please come along and join our campaign so that we can make it as big as possible! For more information about our campaign, please join our World Class Funding Facebook group where we will keep you updated on all of the exciting events we have planned!

Create a visual identity for a new Leeds-wide student health campaign on the topic of alcohol and substance use. Referendum – what happens next?
The motions are online for you to read and amendments have been submitted. The next stage of referendum is the Union Council meeting on Thursday 6th November. The aim of this meeting is for Union Council to agree the agenda for the referendum. They will discuss the proposed motions and amendments and vote whether each motion will go to the referendum or if they will be rejected. Anyone can attend the Referendum Union Council meeting, it will take place from 6.00pm in the Riley Smith Hall. www.luuonline.com/referendum.
Have you got the Knowledge?
As part of the ‘Knowledge’ campaign’s re-launched last Monday, you may have seen the installation in the Union’s reception. This ‘Knowledge Lounge’ has been really successful in engaging with our members, letting them know what it is all about and how to stay safe in Leeds. The Knowledge Lounge will be touring various locations around the city including the other Leeds students’ unions spreading the ‘stay safe’ message.
Check out the website with the latest crime stats, real life stories, and information: www.knowledge-leeds.co.uk and why not become a fan of the Knowledge on Facebook (search ‘Knowledge Leeds’)!
Don't forget to pick up a copy of Issue 4 of the Gist to find out what's going on at LUU, or download a pfd version from www.luuonline.com/thegist.
